Sullivan Takes Lead on SPAWAR's HSMS Implementation
Sullivan International Group, Inc is currently working toward completion of the Hazardous Substance Management System (HSMS) implementation activities at 2 Space and Naval Warfare Systems Centers (SPAWAR) located at the Old Town Material Reuse Center (MRC) and the Point Loma Campus Hazardous Materials Minimization Center (HMC). The Point Loma facility includes a series of HM storage vans. As part of their daily activities, SULLIVAN employees interface with SPAWAR personnel who represent various user Codes in each work site and with key members of the Safety and Environmental Office as well as the Hazardous Waste Office (HWO).

Implementation and continuing maintenance tasks for HSMS have included inventorying existing HM throughout all work sites at the SSC Point Loma Campus which aren’t currently in the HSMS, acquiring appropriate Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for each unique HM, entering all required background data for each item, receipting all HM into the database, issuing all HM which are to be stored at work sites, physically receipting and storing all non-issued HM into the SSC San Diego HMC’s, performing necessary HSMS transactions to ensure HM item quantities, location, and ownership are accurate and up to date, and inspecting worksites to ensure all HM possess’ the correct bar codes.

General maintenance tasks include all HMC’s day-to-day operation, management of all HM in the HMC’s, maintenance of HM stock levels, maintenance of MSDS’, delivery and pick up of HM, decanting of HM, conducting annual user Code work site inspections and customer service to all SSC San Diego employees, contractors, and military personnel during HMC hours of operation.
