San Diego Fire Recovery Network Provided Key GIS Info

In late October 2003 San Diego County was ravaged by the worst wildfire in its history. Because of the devastation of hundreds of thousands of acres and nearly 3,000 homes and 16 fatalities, Sullivan International Group took a lead role in helping to deal with many of the environmental aspects of such a major fire.

Under the leadership of Bruce Goff, Principle Scientist for Sullivan Group, a website was created to form a network of experts to identify and develop innovative solutions for ecological, environmental and economic problems caused by the fire. Sullivan helped establish the San Diego Fire Recovery Network of community organizations, government’s agencies and concerned citizens who were interested in addressing the widespread ecological impact to San Diego County.

The goal of SDFRN is to foster the recovery of our environment, both human and natural, through sound science, improved planning, public awareness and community-based action. The mission is to protect human health and safety, sustain the quality of life in our communities, protect the ecosystem and wildlife, conserve water quality and quantity, and appreciate the cultural heritage and dynamic landscape that makes up San Diego County.

Anne Fege of the Cleveland National Forest (USFS) was very appreciative of Sullivan’s our grass roots approach and personally thanked Mr. Goff for his leadership and support to the fire recovery efforts, and the learning aspects that were provided because of the unprecedented changes in San Diego’s landscapes and communities.

Sullivan Group is proud to take a leadership role in providing a forum for discussion of events that will impact our county for years to come.
